Heathkit HW-16

My latest shack addition is an old Heathkit HW-16 CW transceiver. It covers the lower 250 HZ of the 15, 40 and 80 meter bands. The transmitter is crystal controlled. I need to find some crystals for the frequencies that I like to operate like 7.028. Purchased this item on eBay. This is the same model of radio that I used when I first got my Novice license KA9LBM back in 1978. I logged hundreds of contacts with a Heathkit HW-16. This is a good little radio and will be a keeper in my shack.

First thing I did was trimmed some unclipped componant leads to make the construction look a bit neater. Next I replaced R63 with a 4 meg ohm 1/2 watt resistor to tone down the REALLY loud sidetone. Sounds good now and I can hear my transmitted signal now.

I found an unsoldered wire on pin 2 of the base of V7. Now the transmit is not intermittant. :)
